I'm surprised to not see Concrete5 in this list! It's a great CMS that has started to become very popular lately. Very easy to use on the front-end and very extend to extend on the back-end. Check it out at http://www.concrete5.org.

#2 heckler on 06.02.10 at 12:28 pm

Good effort in covering the top offerings.

One big typo – it’s Drupal, not Durpal.

#3 resfl@1966 on 06.02.10 at 9:44 pm

And no love for DotNetNuke?

Shame, considering the vast majority of developers are .net…

I have worked with Drupal and I have worked with Nuke…I am not making a comment on PHP vs. .net languages…I have done LAMP development and I like PHP and ASP.net equally…but DotNetNuke is much more mature and stable and really easier to implement and develop against (not to mention thier version of an "app store" at http://www.snowcovered.com where you can get tons of modules/plug-ins/skins…wanna guess what I recommend for my clients who need a CMS?

(no I don't own stock or work for DotNetNuke–I'm a software developer/consultant) I found integrating business content services with CMS based web applications easier when going from a .net based CMS portal to Microsoft back office servers…which the majority of my clients/employers have…
Cheers

"Joomla is the award winning Content Management System"…. like it is the only CMS to ever win any awards? They don't even say that on their site… they say "Joomla is __an__ award winning Content Management System".
My recent post Orms and Circular References

#5 Pedro on 06.02.10 at 11:28 pm

Please write the name properly: it's Drupal, not "Durpal" (all the links are correct, though). It would also be interesting to show some information regarding server requirements for each of these CMS. Regards

You are right .. All mentioned web CMS in the post are of PHP platform, In this post we targeted only PHP platform. Well I have also been involved in the development of .net technologies, But it will be a long debate either PHP or .net

Next time our one of the coming soon post will be on .net platform CMS.
My recent post Top 5 Web CMS You Should Consider!

My recent post Top 5 Web CMS You Should Consider!

#10 jamesparker on 06.03.10 at 11:50 am

Well .There are a number of CMS has been launched for up to now! But the thing is PHP has powerful features embedded in CMS. These are considered to be the top.

1. PHP Open source, You can customize the code! no limitations at all, it depends on your skills.
2. Take example of Joomla, we have extensions, modules to understand it and start development, no programming required.

But i will definitely consider the New CMS in my next post.

#11 jamesparker on 06.03.10 at 4:52 am

But it would be encouraged if you list down the concrete5 features and your experience about it…

#12 resfl@1966 on 06.03.10 at 2:35 pm

Bravo. Its nice to "meet" another developer who is platform agnostic. :-)

.net Nuke is open source also–and unlike a lot of other companies who claim to be open sourced–the open source version is powerful and viable as a platform for online business. (I'm definitely not taking a swipe at any of the PHP platform mentioned–I'm taking about open source posers like WebKit.)

In general it seems the companies looking for a hosted solution go with LAMP–and companies looking for in-house hosted solutions generally want .net.

I'll check back and look for your review of .net CMS systems…I haven't worked with Joomla so I can't comment on it, but I have a potential client who is tied to that platform currently…

#13 tim on 06.03.10 at 3:33 pm

Have a look at Pulse CMS also.

Thanks for your intimation, The corrections has been made.. And next time we are trying to make a complete Tutorial for CMS…

#15 jamesparker on 06.03.10 at 10:59 pm

platform agnostic !

That's good :) The thing is the ultimate aim of a developer is to build a cost effective solution. In Software context, Cost relates with the Time and money.

Open source platforms facilitates Developer to make customized development ( The concept also related to Rapid Application Development).

As far as platform is concern, ultimately we have to do development. To choose what technology you will use for a particular solution depends on the client needs and requirements.

Word press is a CMS specialized for Blogging.. And Today's we have Word press the most famous blogging platform. The most important thing about Word press is, its user friendly to operate and to developed. Its not mandatory to have a development knowledge for building a website using Word press.

#19 jamesparker on 08.27.10 at 12:24 am

Yes you are right , the only reason is its effectiveness and efficiency to design and develop a website. And that website manages the content greatly with less coding or ROI.

#20 Somerset Web Design on 09.25.10 at 10:25 am

#25 Stas on 02.23.11 at 2:09 am

I prefer Drupal. Also i suggest for it free PHP IDE Codelobster PHP Edition (http://www.codelobster.com).
It has special plug-in for installation, context help, autocomplition and etc.

#26 Joomla Design on 03.21.11 at 4:40 am

Nice Work. I like working on Joomla. Joomla! is comparatively cost effective, secure and simple to manage!!

#27 James on 03.27.11 at 12:24 am

Considering none of the CMS's mentioned will commit an ounce of code to the PHP project. Maybe it is a good idea to get some other technologies out there?

#28 fred on 03.27.11 at 5:54 pm

drupal has very slow page load time as in comparison to phpwarmsky. phpwarmsky loads the fastest that i have seen. you can also choose from 5 WYSIWYG HTML editors.
