Unfortunately, W3C validation isn't always enough… Quite often, browsers (especially IE) don't conform exactly to the standards, so I'd suggest that beyond validation, testing on different browsers/OS is necessary.
True, but now there are more compatibility fixes and surely CSS play a big role in this regard.

Load times is such a critical design factor, in my opinion. If I have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for a web site, odds are good I may just give up and go elsewhere. Try to scale back on the Flash, people.

I did not know about SEO and than I had some company do the SEO for me and now I see my website going higher and higher in the rankings. But what is very true is what someone said that you should keep away from flash. I have learned search engines such as Google hate flash.
