The entire web community has become vigorous to bring up something unique and make a name in this wild and ever changing world of the three W’s. To keep your users interested in your business (whatever it is), you’ve got to integrate new elements to your existing website, or completely give it a drastic makeover to suit the upcoming trends in the year 2010. For a start, here are the things you can imply.
Gigantic Logos and Headers
This is probably the best alternative to all the flashy flash you want to use on your website. Make note and remember it, “flash is outdated” so better not use it in your 2010 website design. You can use a huge banner instead. This way, the first page of your website will give a one-image impression like that of flash, but instead of the annoying clicking your user will simply have to scroll down to get the information.
Magazine Layout
Since the internet users are inclined more towards entertainment and interesting short articles, web designers can profit this interest factor by creating magazine type layout, where all information is displayed attractively and briefly like that in a glossy magazine.
Hand Drawn Sketches
This is a big break to the traditional graphics and illustrations you find on the web everywhere. It gives simple, unique and personalized look to your website visitors. Similar to hand drawn images, handwriting style is also gaining much popularity.
Typography
This aspect is increasingly gaining popularity and is highly recommended for your 2010 web design. Instead of using the regular fonts, it’s always better to try some larger, more happening fonts to make yourself stand out.
One Page Designs
Giving your website a “business card” look is another web design trend for future. This will eliminate the nasty experience of navigation and will give the user all info at one place. This kind of design will also help eliminate the needles material from your website.
Application of Large Images and Pictures

Replacing Icons For Text

Typography is definitely big on web design nowadays, and icons have replaced a lot of what used to be logos and web work.

Im glad to hear someone say that Flash is outdated. I think thats correct in many ways. It has its purposes and to think that the first 5 years of my career were wasted is too much to handle!

I feel Flash to be not preferred that much now because it was to induce some charm and attraction but now that can be done by different graphics and effects too. CSS3 is out there, many jQuery and AJAX implementations are there too which give so much attraction to your web pages. I am these day looking out some ways out to complete replace flash from my website too but thinking out some way the best I could do it.

I think we are glancing over some fundamentals.
Flash isn't necessarily outdated as much as the total commitment to it (or any pending motion solution) is,…. Complete reliance upon an animation (or other code based nuance) application has eliminated the design skill of building a interface that is natural for a reader to use in absorbing information.
Fonts: yea! BUT,….in moderation. Unless Nike calls!
Icons: It's where we came from in 1994. The challenge, what does the icon mean from site to site,…..Some will translate, but we'll still need to be able to read…. Don't let it replace language.
I have been waiting for someone to acknowledge a magazine style layout. We just need to be able to prepare for page real estate restrictions.
Sure icing is nice,…. but the cake (content) has to support it, sell it and allow you to embrace point of it.
Sorry if it sounds pessimistic, I need to order some page pizza and take a walk though the art museum.

I think we'll see a ton of sites begin to open up to "community" editing through some new platforms. I bet we'll be seeing a mix of social media with integration much like Google wave to create massive posts ala Wiki style.
Trends do get recycled. That's a good thing. Flash has never been important for search engine optimized sites. It has its place and I don't see that changing. These business card style Web sites? Not so sure about that one. Good luck with it if that's the way you want to go. Typography: Hasn't that always been a bane. CSS was invented for this right? I think the Magazine style has come of age…. and I love those hand drawn graphics…

haha yeah, we just need a solution to the custom type face embedding problem on the web, once that is solved, web will be golden with a feast of typography.
Well, I would say that if not that much but at least not preferred by many and now I feel the trend is to go more simple and precise. Yes, limited use of flash is quite okay.
I appreciate your point for Icons. Language should not be tempered anyway.

I'm only disagree with one point. Flash is NOT outdated, especially now when Flash websites become more SEO friendly, more people tend to have Flash website because of its interactivity and dynamism.

I completely agree. The white background was always a winner, but people are coming to expect a clean 'apple'y look when they visit websites. People want things to be easily accessible and readable, and the one page business card website look is going to be hot this year.
I love the "business card" look as a web design, I think it would be great for a legal/law type of blog. I could not agree with yo umore about the white background too, although I love to use light grey also, adds a little more trust to the design

Well, typography has already been in since late 2009, but it is getting more common now and seems to be more in practice in coming days. Font can be kept simple though, typography is something more than just a fancy font.

I would not entirely agree with the suggestion that Flash is getting outdated. It is rather taking a second plan with less intensive animations and interactive content to supplement foreground visuals.
Regarding typography – it could be in wide use in web design a long time ago if not the obstacles that we have till this day when it comes to fonts and SEO compromise. Still no fully compatible technology with existing standards. I hope it will change soon and fonts would be fully embedded in the website instead of relaying common fonts only.

It is still a long way till flash will be outdated. Actually, Flex is boosting like never before the flash as a platform. Flex is elegant and powerfull.
Images may look better on pages but they cannot replace text when it comes to SEO. Yes, you put some alt text, but only 3 alt texts are really relevant for SEs
Tomek, well that is an opinion. Few people think its over now, while other think its still in and similar stories…so all depends one's experience in more precised way. But for sure, the uncrowded and simple designs are more popular now both for the search engines and for the users. Well about typography it is quite true.

I have not much experience with Flex but I have with Flash. So, I can't say much about Flex. I am more oriented towards simple and elegant web designs apart from loaded with animations and flash media.
Yes, ALT and Title is the remedy for SEO'ers while dealing with images but I have not heard of any limitation over using ALT as such.
