  1. Know the purpose and goals of a website before starting to design, perhaps the audience.
  2. Plan the website layout according to the client’s perspective and interaction.
  3. Choose colors and color combination very carefully, go for browser safe colors.
  4. Keep the font style and size consistent throughout the website, maintain typography.
  5. Keep navigation and menu structure simple and clear, properly organized with sub-menus if any.
  6. Websites main header is the first impression, so make it stand out. Speak a bit louder.
  7. Divide content into sections and paragraphs using headings and bullets. This increases the content’s readability and impression.
  8. Use interesting images that compliment the website and integrate with its whole theme. Induce call to action.
  9. Each page of the website should have appropriate title and Meta tags to help rank well in search engines.
  10. Search box option is a must to help user find relevant information on the website.

Having a good website is crucial for business owners. Therefore, follow the above mentioned guidelines the next time you design or redesign any website.

Excellent tips, I think navigation is most important when creating a website, you need to help your visitors find what they want and give it to them fast. Deep linking also helps with SEO.

All 10 are excellent tips. However, my biggest issues with design have always surfaced when clients stop following best practice suggestions and want to go down a different path. I'm all for being unique and different, but not at the expense of usability. Sometimes, I find it difficult to find that exact balance between client desires and the application of common sense. Sorry if I sound disgruntled, but I just finished a longterm project with a particularly difficult client.

Hi Anthony, well it happens that we often lack an absolute mix but still we go on the way because the client is to have the desired application. Truly, the usability is a major concern but with all goes disturbed when a client is not able to realize it but sometime we can manage to have client to follow the best practices but this situation is rare.
